Our practice is offering patients over the age of 18 the ability to view their basic medical records from 1st April 2015.
Under the 1998 Data Protection Act, everyone has a legal right to ask to see their NHS or private health records, using a subject Access Request. In practice, this means applying to see the paper versions from each practice, hospital or care provider separately. Access may be denied if it is considered that it would cause serious harm to the patient, and patients will often need to pay te see a copy.
But things are changing. As more and more health provider replace paper records with elictronic versions, the aim is to allow patients to access these electronic records for themselves.
Currently you will only be able to view your medications, allergies and adverse reactions, however, access will increase to other areas of your medical records in th future. This service is available to all patients aged 18 years old and over.
This practice currently offers ability to book GP appointments and request repeat medication online to registered patients over the age of 18.
